Who We
Are
Blue Mountain
Heart to Heart was conceived by a task force of health care officials,
service agencies, and concerned individuals who came together
to create a coordinated response to the earliest cases of HIV/AIDS
in the Walla Walla Valley. As science worked to unravel the cause,
effect and treatment for HIV/AIDS and laws were enacted to protect
those affected, the heart of our work was and remains compassion
for those in need.
Formally
incorporated in 1991 as a private non-profit community based
organization, Heart to Heart continues its commitment to providing
positive, non-judgmental, HIV/AIDS support services and resources
in an effort to:
- prevent
the spread of HIV/AIDS through direct client contact, syringe
exchange, educational programs, and anonymous HIV testing and
counseling
- help provide
support services to people living with HIV/AIDS, their partners,
families, and friends
- collaborate
with area agencies to effectively serve clients and prevent
the spread of HIV
- heighten
public awareness and dispel myths surrounding HIV/AIDS and its
transmission
- provide
access to HIV education, prevention materials, and case management
to the growing Spanish-speaking population in our service area
Heart to Heart
encourages diversity in our community through participation in
partnerships like the United Way. As the lead agency for the Blue
Mountain HIV/AIDS Consortium, serving on the Region I Planning
Group for the State of Washington, as the representative for Columbia
County at Region I AIDSNET Coordinators meetings, and having been
chosen to participate in the Washington State HIV/AIDS Policy
summit in 1995 and 2001, Heart to Heart works to represent the
needs of rural communities in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
